Security center cannot turn on automatic updates vista

Do you remember making any changes to the computer prior to this issue? Do you receive any error codes or messages when you check for updates? You can check the status of Windows update and security center services. If it is stopped, try to start the service and check. Repeat the above steps and check the status of Security center service.

If stopped, start the service and check. I did a Google search on this error and found a resolution on Google Groups — after registering the dlls in this thread, I closed and re-opened the Security Centre and the Automatic Updates showed as being on. Thanks for this — a friend of mine had the same problem. Followed your link, and problem sorted. Thanks, Tom. This post saved me a headache.

For ANY problem that comes up. Easy fix, worked right the first time, quick too! Well, quick once XP finally decided to let the first command actually run…. I have got the exact same problem. My automatic updates do not work. Could you be a friend and tell me how exactly you tackled this problem? The thread half worked for me. Thanks, Noel.

Thank you very much. I had been spent few hours to solve this problem and finally able to do it! How do you permanently get rid of the stupid warning flag that keeps nagging me to turn on automatic updates. I do not want them, so I turn them off..

This happens on 5 different XP Pro machines that I have.. Anyone else see this? This has been going on for months. My first thought was that maybe a Virus or Spyware was changing it… assuming it was ON..

Any ideas?? Here is a way to get rid of that annoying little warning. I'd really like some good advice here. I don't want to do a clean install of Vista, but I'm almost sure that SP1 is not going to succeed while my Security centre is in such a state. I have scanned the system for viruses and it appears to be clean. I'm just not sure how to properly go about fixing the repository.

The only other thing it seems to affect is setting system restore points. When Windows installs an update, it successfully creates a restore point, but if I try to do it manually it invariably fails and it gives me a "transient error" warning, suggesting that if I try again, it might work which it doesn't.

So this is last stop before reinstall but I'm reluctant to do that, as it takes a lot of time and annoyance. Thanks for your input. I appreciate it. Thursday, April 24, AM. Hi, The error code 0xA may occurs for one of the following reasons: 1. Click Start, right-click Computer, and then click Properties. Click the Advanced tab, and then click Environment Variables. In the System variables section, click to select Path, and then click Edit.

Click OK three times. Double-click WMIDiag. Click Start, and then type cmd in the Start Search box. Hope it helps. Tuesday, May 6, PM. Hi, You did the right steps. Thursday, May 8, AM. Hi, You may need to fix the WMI repository. Friday, May 9, PM. Hi Geoff, It seems Windows Vista does not detect the third-party antivirus. Hope this helps. Friday, April 25, AM. Thanks for the reply Yog Li, but Vista not recognising my anti virus is only a small and insignificant problem for me.

I can live with that, and I'd imagine SP1 would fix that if it was a known issue. The bigger issues for me are that Windows Defender is broken and won't update, certain secuity updates won't install, and I can't make a restore point. All of this becuase the repository is not working correctly.

I could try and install SP1, but I feel almost certain parts of it will fail becuase the repository is not in order. I get the feeling I have to either fix it or re-install Windows.
